A visit to the Grand Canyon is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many individuals, and approximately 5.5 million people visit the 1 mile deep (1.6 km) Grand Canyon each year. The majority of visitors (90%) see the Grand Canyon from the "South Rim," from viewpoints reached by complimentary park shuttle buses or personal vehicles. The canyon stretches for 277 river miles (446 kilometers) and is up to 18 miles (29 kilometers) wide.
Place to Visit
South Rim - The South Rim is the park's most popular attraction, and it's open all year.
North Rim - The North Rim Season (full services) runs from May 15 to October 15, and the North Rim is only open for day use between November 1 and November 30. The North Rim is closed due to snow throughout the winter months.
Grand Canyon Skywalk - For untold years, the "People of the Tall Pines" have resided in the Southwest. Their traditional homelands ranged from the Grand Canyon in west-central Arizona to the Bill Williams River, and from the Black Mountains bordering the Colorado River to the San Francisco Peaks. They were primarily nomadic hunter-gatherers who traded with neighboring tribes. In 1883, the Hualapai Reservation, which covers slightly over 1,000,000 acres (404.868 ha), was founded. The tribe now has over 2,300 members.
Activities to do in Grand Canyon
Lodging - Especially during spring break, summer months, and fall weekends, lodging is in high demand. Reservations are strongly advised. Grand Canyon Village's lodges are open all year and are mostly within walking distance of the canyon rim.
Camping - All three NPS campgrounds within Grand Canyon National Park accept reservations in advance. Desert View Campground now requires bookings in advance.
River Trips - There are different river trip opportunities through Grand Canyon National Park.
